Ramadan and quarantining automatically means indulging in whatever served in front of you and real weight gain! We feel lonely, we are bored and we have lost the will power to those evil yummy deserts that leave us on the couch for the rest of the night. But with some tweaks and smarter choices, we can eat better at Sohour and stay fuller, that way we can face the temptations better. With that being said, let’s start with 4 healthy products to have in your Sohour:
1. Juhayna Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is always a preferred choice to be added to your night meal. It’s full of Casein, which is a slowly absorbed protein that will stay longer in your system and drip feed your body with amino acids while sleeping. In addition to making you feel more full, what I like about Juhayna’s product is that it contains 15 grams of protein per pack and also comes in 4 different fat levels: 7%, 5%, 2%, and 0.2% which gives a variety for you to choose from.
2. Kayy High Protein Oats
Oatmeal is a nutritious complex carbohydrate source and contains a good amount of fiber. This means that it will take a long time to be processed by the body and thus will make you stay full for longer periods. Kayy took even a step further by adding protein to oats in a range of delicious flavors, and by delicious we mean their “Starbucks” themed Coffee-induced range that comes in: Chocolate Mocha, Hazelnut Cappuccino, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Toffee Nut & Caramel Espresso. Kayy Oats are definitely the perfect option for those who struggle with their daily protein intake and don’t like the classic taste of oats.
3. Abu Auf Almond Butter
Healthy fats are always overlooked despite having a major role in a healthy diet. They should be included on your Sohour meal and almonds are among the most recommended sources of good fats due to their low content of calories compared to other nuts. Also, their high fiber content and fat loss aiding properties make them a necessity in your healthy lifestyle. However, eating raw unsalted almonds might not be palatable for some of us, that’s why some almond butter options like Abu Auf’s one to have with your Sohour will do the trick. It will boost your meal with the needed healthy fats, and it can be a great substitute for the famous peanut butter if you don’t fancy the peanut taste.
4. Ovo X2 Egg Whites
Who doesn’t eat eggs on Sohour? Other than those allergic to eggs and vegans, I can’t imagine someone having Sohour without that delicious and nutritious powerhouse. But no matter how much you eat eggs, the issue is that your body needs larger amounts of egg whites than egg yolks. If you separate the egg whites, egg yolks usually end up rotten, thrown away, or fed to poor street cats. Ovo X2 has ready Pasteurized Egg Whites that save us from the hassle and the bottle contains 33 grams of protein. And no, it doesn’t taste bad at all!
