Meet Sara Osman, the woman who found a way to empower women using our history.

Imagine all the female historical figures of ancient Egypt came back to life, what would they wear? The 23 years old Sara Osman, the founder and designer of Ozmo Collection, answered the question.
“You have no excuse to pursue your dream or impact the society” looks like a gendered statement. But that is exactly what her designs say. They speak of themselves. You understand it without you even read the caption. We had an interview with her and here are the questions:

What Inspired you to create OZMO? How did the idea come about?

“Ever since I was a child, I would dream of having my own clothing line, I would sit and sketch collections for weeks. After graduating from university, I worked for 1 year and during that 1 year, I quit 4 jobs. But the job that stayed the longest is a fashion designer and marketing manager at a clothing company called “Bella Donna”. My last job is what pushed me to start my fashion career so early (it was always at the back of my head)”

What is Ozmo’s main aim?

“My main aim behind the brand is to empower women, using ancient Egyptian women as an inspiration for women of this generation, to set all barriers aside and achieve their dreams.”

What makes OZMO different from its competitors?

“OZMO isn’t just a clothing brand, it’s a movement and it has a story that carries out an important message. I’ve always been inspired by ancient Egyptian history, and how the women at that time were very powerful compared to now. So, in a way, I wanted to raise awareness on that issue through my designs, and by depicting the personality of ancient Egyptian women into my designs and what they would wear if they were alive today.”

“My first collection featured 2 Ancient Egyptian figures in history (Cleopatra and Hatshepsut) and 2 Egyptian Mythology (Sekhmet and NUT) and the story that I created is that they all united to send an important message to the women of this generation, to achieve what their hearts desire without letting stereotypes get to them.”

“Also, each collection has different fabrics that have a lot of detail. In the first collection FW’20, I embroidered the names in hieroglyphics of each historical figure into the designs. For SS’20 I created my own fabric by drawing it from scratch and sending it to a company that customizes your print on any type of fabric. Therefore, OZMO provides its market with very original pieces that raise awareness of their own history.”

Could you tell us a bit about your team or is it you alone?

“Well, it’s a one-woman show. I design and do all the business aspects of it since I also have a bachelor’s degree in finance and innovation. I’m also behind the camera in all of the photos.”

What was the most challenging part about starting OZMO? and how did you overcome it?

“I was always worried in each step” “What if people don’t like my designs” “What if the fabric did not work well” “How will I make the sizing fit the clients well?”. Also, the start was difficult since I launched my FW’20 late, so I was all over the place finishing an entire collection in a month and a half. I started OZMO late August 2019 and Launched in October 2019. Also, finding the right manufacturer was a hassle, and the packaging took a lot of effort. So, it taught me to always be ready and, on my feet, and have a lot of back-up plans.”

“When I see my vision in action and progress. Taking a step forward is a success. Making a customer happy is a success. Failing is also succeeding, because it gives you the “know-how” to succeed and then you will be on the right path of success.”

How do you treat your customers? Share an experience in which you successfully share a difficult piece of information.

“My customers are the base of the brand, without them, there wouldn’t be OZMO. Therefore, I give them the ultimate satisfaction. Shopping online could be a worrying experience for most people, but I worked on guaranteeing credibility by personally speaking with customers via DMs to make the process as smooth as possible. If they need more pictures of the item, and I accept refund and exchange so that gives them a little guarantee if all fails they will get their money back.”

“Two things that truly had an impact on me, my first client, and how ecstatic she was with the whole experience and my latest collection. Both impacted me because it made me feel, that people like something I did, and they’re actually spending money on it, which gave me true happiness, that I created, and people appreciated.”

What is the future step for OZMO?

“The future step is participating in the Global Fashion Weeks and making OZMO a globally recognized brand.”
