The partnership between Spotify and Ramadan marks Spotify’s commitment to elevating artist stories from the Middle East and North Africa to the rest of the world.
“Spotify is the place for music discovery. We make it easier for people to discover music and for artists to meaningfully engage with their fans,” says Wissam Khodur, Artist & Label Partnerships Lead for MENA. “Artists are looking at Spotify as the first place for audience development and Spotify’s ability to help artists build their brand through our campaigns is a key part of why they want to work with us.”
Famed for his catchy lyrics, viral dance moves, and flawless ability to mix regional and western styles, Ramadan has positioned himself as one of the Arab world’s biggest artists. To celebrate his regional success to date and to elevate his global reach, Spotify’s team of curators will be supporting “Ya Habibi” on prominent global playlists.
Commenting on Spotify’s campaign, Mohamed Ramadan said, “From Africa to the rest of the world! I’m really excited to take our music to new audiences. It was a great experience collaborating with Gims and to see our track light up the streets of New York and Jeddah is special.”
Following his win in the African Fans’ Favourite category at the 2019 AFRIMA Awards, Ramadan’s interest in the continent’s music scene started to grow. It was almost inevitable that the collaboration between Ramadan and Gims would become reality with the wheels set in motion at a concert in Marrakech last year, attended by 450,000 fans, where Ramadan became instantly inspired by Gims’ impact across Europe and Africa.
“It’s an incredible time for Arabic music and we’re seeing more and more people get into the sounds and the language itself. It can only get better from here. I hope everyone loves ‘Ya Habibi’ as much as we do,” Ramadan says.
Adding his thoughts on the collaboration, Gims commented, “I chose to work with Ramadan because I really like what he does as an artist and as a man. He is someone who has a big heart and is a very talented singer and actor. This is what has earned him his popularity today and the support of his people.”
The new single “Ya Habibi” is scheduled for release on 6th September 2020. Listen to Mohamed Ramadan on Spotify here.
