We want to thank SYNC Community group for giving us the opportunity to discover this talent. We believe this group has a box of hidden treasures, who will, hopefully, find their ways. Luckily, we happened to come across this talent; a young Egyptian girl with a special vision of whimsical photography. Every shot gives off the vibe that you are in a classic English novel. It will make you wonder whether this is a captured photo or a beautiful painting. With a click of her camera, she portrays life in photos and transforms photos into art. Let’s see who this girl is and see some of her witchcraft:
Menna Hossam, a freelance Photographer with 9 years of experience, based in Cairo. Menna graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts back in 2010. She started off her photography journey during college years as a hobbyist in 2009. She managed to develop her skills and build her own identity through the years. Her journey of becoming the photographer she is now, by photographing her college mates and edit their portraits on Photoshop. Slowly, it seemed as if she was drifting away from her original passion; painting, towards another; photography. However, it was not a full shift of passion, but rather a fusion of the two interests. From which, emerged this great talent. With the background of a painter who is into fairytales, Classic music, Disney, Baroque, and Rocco photography, it somewhat affected her style and vision of work. She mainly does art direction, photography, retouching, and color grading. Intrigued? Well, prepare yourself to get hooked by some of her most prominent shoots;
Ophelia is a character in William Shakespeare’s drama Hamlet. Since Menna is a huge fan of Shakespeare, and one of her favorite characters from his work is Ophelia.
The character’s backstory and depth were intriguing enough for Menna to consider creating a photo series of her. The artist spent 2 years looking for someone who could embody the character of Ophelia and deliver the feelings that she wanted to represent through the images; taking a director’s role. Also, the color palette of the project was one of the hardest palettes that Menna has ever created. She tried to achieve painterly inspired color tones, and it took her almost a month to achieve the desired results. And the outcome? Totally worth the effort!
Ode to Zelda
Menna’s first project with the Egyptologist Dr. Colleen Darnell. They wanted to pay a tribute to the famous American Novelist Zelda Fitzgerald by bringing the 20’s and 30’s style back to life. Indeed, they succeeded, bringing this piece of art to us.
Here is a winning project, which took part in a competition held by Canon North Africa in Egypt last year. Ten photographers competed against each other and the grand prize was a Canon EOS R mirrorless camera. Menna only had a couple of days to come up with an idea and execute it. Everyone submitted their images, and when the winner was later announced in November, it was no one but this great photographer.
Cinderella was Menna’s first photo-shoot to be conducted in Europe. She said that it was nothing less than a magical experience. The shoot took place at the Royal Garden of Prague Castle and now one of the photos is featured in the presidential residence inside of Prague Castle.
